IU Expand listing standards
In the July 2022 issue of The IU Expanse, we introduced a new IU Expand course listing workflow.
In the new workflow, the Open for Enrollment toggle will be greyed out and disabled, rending it inaccessible to admins until the IU Expand Team has had a chance to review the listing for compliance and completeness. Admins will see a bright blue bar at the top of their IU Expand listing. Admins must attest that their course meets Level 1 or Level 2 listing standards and follows all accessibility standards.
Once you have checked the attestation box and clicked the Request Review button, the request will be routed to the IU Expand Team. You will receive an email message confirming that your request has been forwarded. When you return to the IU Expand listing page, you will see a notice stating that the listing is pending approval. The IU Expand Team will review requests within one to two business days.
There are two types of course listing standards in IU Expand: Level 1 and Level 2.
- LEVEL 1 LISTING
- Course Introduction – a descriptive paragraph that introduces your course
- Learning Outcomes – what students will be able to do upon completion (2–5 outcomes are recommended)
- Module Topics – the content covered in the course
- Meet the Instructors – a descriptive paragraph about the instructor, course creator, etc.
- Length – how long the course will take to complete
- Department – the course's originating department
- Credit – this could be a certificate, a number of continuing education credits, etc.
- Audience – could vary from "everyone" to "incoming freshmen"
- LEVEL 2 LISTING
- Course Introduction – a descriptive paragraph that introduces your course
- Learning Outcomes – what students will be able to do upon completion (2–5 outcomes are recommended)
- Length – how long the course will take to complete
- Department – the course's originating department
- Audience – could vary from "everyone" to "incoming freshmen"
Once the course listing has been reviewed, the IU Expand Team will reach out if any changes need to be made before the course is opened for enrollment. If there are no items to address, the listing will be approved, and the admin will be notified that the course is ready to open. The toggle switch will then be unlocked, and the admin can log in and switch the listing to Open for Enrollment.
