IU Expand Catalog Creation Guide: a guide for Catalog and Subcatalog Administrators
The Course Proposal Form collects information specific to a course that the client desires to host on the Expand platform.
The Department Sponsor is the person who signs and authorizes the MSA & SOW, taking responsibility for all content listed by the department on IU Expand. For this reason, it should be a person with leadership responsibility for a department/unit.
In the process of filling out the MSA & SOW, though, you will be asked to provide a Catalog Administrator. This person will be the main person in charge of the catalog and is usually more heavily involved in day-to-day details and planning/developing courses for the catalog.
A Course in IU Expand represents a one-to-one catalog listing for a single Canvas course. Individual courses are represented in IU Expand by a blue icon.
A Program in IU Expand represents a one-to-many catalog listing for multiple Canvas courses. A Program allows a Catalog Administrator to place multiple Courses, or single courses, into one grouping or series. When a student registers for a Program, they are automatically enrolled in ALL the courses tied to the Program. Program enrollment typically dictates the completion order for listed Courses. Programs are represented in IU Expand by a purple icon.
Courses published on IU Expand can be offered at no-cost or for an enrollment fee. Enrollment fees are paid by learners upon registration check-out and are processed by PayPal. IU Expand retains 10% of gross paid enrollment fees to cover operating expenses, including credit card transaction fees and the annual license maintenance fee for the IU Expand platform. IU Departments/units keep 90% of gross enrollment revenue and revenue disbursement to sub catalog owners occurs on a quarterly basis.
To receive distributions in a timely fashion, the Representative of the Department Sponsor should complete the financial information section of the Master Service Agreement and each subsequent Statement of Work (listing specific) document.
Note: All departments collecting fees from IU Expand courses are responsible for following established university RPAQ policies and procedures. Please make sure you have an RPAQ on file before you list IU Expand courses with enrollment fees.
