Creating Online Visuals that are Accessible: How to design content for all learners in mathematics

Continuing the Conversation with Christopher Lang, PhD

It is important that we are able to reach all learners in an online environment, and some disciplines make that more difficult than others. For mathematics, including high-quality notation and equations in documents or slideshow presentations that are accessible can be challenging. The presenter will describe how a simple slideshow template can enable quick conversion of HTML documents to simple slideshows suitable for video lectures. The commonly-used technology, MathJax, is used in an HTML document, which makes it fast and easy to include high-quality mathematical notation in a document or slideshow. This webinar will demonstrate how a faculty member created templates to easily make the online learning materials accessible for all learners.

About the presenter

Chris Lang has taught at IU Southeast since 1994, where he is now a professor of mathematics and coordinator of the upper-level mathematics program. He has published research in mathematics, physics, mathematics and physics education, and pediatrics. He teaches an online course in Fourier analysis for the graduate certificate in mathematics for dual-credit high school teachers.
