Student-student interaction: How to ensure meaningful small group work in an online drama course

Continuing the Conversation with Lynn Jettpace, MA

Because of the need to have students consider performance as an aspect of dramatic texts, students can miss important experiences when taking drama courses online. This presentation demonstrates an assignment using VoiceThread to incorporate performance into an online drama class that allows students to perform and analyze scenes in pairs or small groups. Since incorporating the VoiceThread assignment, students consistently report it is the most meaningful and enjoyable aspect of the course, allowing them to interact with texts and their classmates on a deeper level. This presentation will discuss why and how to set up these assignments, the pros and cons of using VoiceThread for small group activities in online classes, and student responses to the assignment.
