Sharon Wavle joined the Office of Online Education as data manager in January 2013. Previously she served as professor and chair of computer cience and computer information systems at Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3) in Dryden, New York, and the State University of New York (SUNY) at Morrisville, New York, where she taught programming and database design for almost 20 years. Sharon offered her first online programming class in fall 2000 through the SUNY Learning Network and has taught the majority of her classes online in a variety of course management systems since then.
After a family relocation to southern Indiana in 2009, Sharon taught online and on campus for TC3 in Dryden, New York, Indiana University Southeast in New Albany, Indiana, and Ivy Tech Community College in Sellersburg, Indiana, until joining the Office of Online Education.
Sharon has a B.A. in economics from the State University of New York at Geneseo and an M.S. in Computer Science from Syracuse University, and has completed coursework toward a Ph.D. in Instructional Design, Development, and Evaluation from Syracuse University.
- Develops and generates complex data extracts from IU data warehouse environments. Performs coordination, analysis, and systems tasks, including design, programming, testing, and documentation of new and existing data sources. Produces a variety of reports for internal purposes for the Office of Online Education (i.e., admissions, enrollment, retention, graduation rates, and degree completions).
- Works with UIRR and all campuses to provide guidance on institutional reporting requirements and necessary data development to serve reporting needs for online education, including monitoring, defining, and providing official data to the Indiana Commission for Higher Education (ICHE), accreditors, and state and federal regulators.
- Collaborates with UITS, UIRR, and USSS, internal and multicampus end-users in the design, development, and deployment of models for online education, which involves analyzing data and operations of web-based student information and decision-support applications supporting SES, IUIE, and PeopleSoft/SIS services.
- Leads and coordinates interactions that facilitate cooperation and collaboration within institutional data reporting offices among all of the campuses to support the strategic goals of the Office of Online Education.
