IU Online continues to make a splash with UPCEA, and we couldn’t be prouder.
Last November, UPCEA—the nation’s leading online and professional development association—recognized IU Online’s leadership in online education with the 2023 Excellence in Enrollment Management Award.
In February, UPCEA bestowed the Dorothy Durkin Award for Strategic Innovation in Marketing and/or Enrollment Management on Whitnie Powell, IU Online’s assistant vice president of enrollment management and student services.
The Durkin Award recognizes an individual’s achievements in strategic planning, marketing innovation, or enrollment management success. Such achievements help position or reposition an institution of higher learning, increase enrollment numbers, improve or diversify the applicant pool, or lead to new educational products and services that meet the demands of the evolving marketplace.
Powell’s selection came after an extensive review of nominations from institutions across the United States. Her letters of nomination highlighted her many accomplishments over the past year, including:
- Transforming a decentralized, campus-based student services model into a centralized approach that serves students in a consistent, collaborative way.
- Implementing a second eight-week pathway to enrollment.
- Sharing her innovative strategies with colleagues at IU and beyond.
“Whitnie is a passionate and inspiring exemplar of the values the Dorothy Durkin Award represents,” says Associate Vice President Chris Foley. “Every day, her efforts contribute to the university’s and our students’ success.”
Powell will be honored at the 2024 UPCEA Annual Conference, March 26–28, in Boston, MA.
