IU has again enrolled a record number of students for a spring semester. In total, 8,469 students enrolled in the university’s 233 online programs this spring—a 6 percent growth over spring 2023. While the Kelley School of Business’ MBA enrolls the largest number of online students (with 1,716), several other programs are posting increasingly large numbers. For example, the Chancellors’ BS in Business Administration, managed collaboratively among the regional campuses, now enrolls 706 students, and the BS in Psychology now serves 410.
While new student growth in spring is typically not as large as fall growth, spring 2024 saw a 20.7 percent increase in new students. Just as important, the percentage of students continuing from fall to spring grew to 87 percent—a 1 percent increase over last year. Retention, of course, is a key contributor to an overall increase in enrollment numbers.
This year, we introduced second eight-week entry points for the programs of scale; and second eight-week enrollments added to overall growth this spring. In fact, enrollments in the programs of scale and in some relatively new bachelor’s degrees (accounting, actuarial science, and applied statistics) grew by 20 percent for the spring 2024.
