To mark the 10th year of IU Online's existence, Interim Executive Vice President Susan Sciame-Gesiecke sponsored an external review of IU's approach to online education. In the fall, a steering committee co-chaired by Chancellor Kathryn Girten and Associate Vice President Chris Foley conducted a search for a partner and selected Deloitte to lead the review.
The Deloitte team has been asked to focus on four areas: sustainable funding for online education, opportunities for enrollment growth, organizational efficiency, and the governance structure of online programs and courses. The review began at the beginning of December, and the findings will be finalized at the end of February in a report that will be presented to EVP Sciame-Giesecke and President Pamela Whitten.
To date, the review has involved:
- 40 interview sessions that involved more than 200 faculty, administrators, and staff from across IU.
- A survey of more than 4,000 IU faculty, administrators, and staff that generated more than 1,000 responses.
- A benchmarking study to compare IU's approach and investment in online education to a set of comparable institutions.
- A quantitative analysis of online education involving financial and enrollment data.
The external review of online education is also running alongside Deloitte's review of regional campus enrollment opportunities, and we plan to coordinate recommendations from both reviews to determine next steps.
