Data from IU's online learning management system Canvas is helping academic advisors identify students who may benefit from academic support early in the semester. The study, designed by IUPUI Campus Career and Advising Services and piloted in fall 2020, showed a direct correlation between time spent engaging with Canvas and student success. Students in the lower quartile of engagement who subsequently received advising intervention had a higher persistence rate and a GPA that was, on average, 20 percent higher than that of students in a control group.
