In fall 2020, Indiana University enrolled a record number of students, underscoring the university's success in helping students begin, continue, or complete their studies.
IU Online now offers 170 degree and certificate programs across IU's seven campuses, up from 135 programs in fall 2019. Of these, 52 are undergraduate, 118 are graduate, and 28 are collaborative programs. Fall official census highlights include the following:
- Students in online degree, certificate, and non-degree programs rose to 7,444, a 17.5 percent increase over fall 2019, and a 74 percent increase since 2015. These students represent 50 US states and 56 countries.
- Undergraduate online enrollment grew to 3,062, an increase of 22.5 percent over fall 2019. Of the total, 23 percent are students new to IU, 19 percent come from underrepresented groups, and 36 percent are first-generation students.
- Graduate online enrollment grew to 4,382, a 14.3 percent increase over fall 2019. Of those, 13.5 percent come from underrepresented groups, 7.1 percent are located outside the US, and 5 percent are active members of the military.
- Indiana residents account for 52 percent of all students in online programs. Sixty-nine percent of undergraduate students and 39 percent of graduate students are Indiana residents.
- Programs that showed the largest gains in enrollment are the undergraduate BS in Business Administration (BSBA), which grew from 125 enrollments in fall 2019 to 655 enrollments in fall 2020, and the graduate Master of Business Administration (MBA), which grew from 184 enrollments to 1,651 enrollments in the same one-year period.
