The Office of Online Education, the Office of Collaborative Academic Programs, and the Advance College Project are collaborating with all seven IU campuses to offer online courses and certificates to those who teach college classes to high school students and to those who teach at community colleges.
Higher Learning Commission (HLC) guidelines require these instructors to have either a master’s degree in the discipline they teach, or a master’s degree in teaching plus a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the subject they teach.
Enrollment numbers for the initiative are promising. In summer 2018, 222 dual-credit teachers were enrolled in 13 class sections; and as of the first day of classes in fall 2018, 316 dual-credit teachers were enrolled in 23 class sections.
Courses in biology; chemistry; communications; English, literature, writing, and composition; history; mathematics; and political science, as well as certificates in mathematics and English, literature, writing, and composition are being offered.
