Indiana University recently signed an agreement with Examity, a video and remote proctoring service that conducts proctored assessments without the constraints of time and physical space. Remote proctoring services verify students’ identities and report any signs of academic dishonesty by monitoring students’ behavior while testing. Examity integrates directly within Canvas LMS, thereby enabling instructors and students to readily access scheduled exams within each course.
Beginning in spring 2018, Examity will be available for online, hybrid, and live video course delivery methods at no additional cost to students or academic units.
Benefits of Examity
Course instructors have options. Examity provides four tiers of service, ranging from automated authentication to live, synchronous proctoring. Instructors may select the proctoring level that best aligns with their needs.
Students have flexibility. The use of a remote proctoring service eliminates the need for students to drive to campus or testing center and allows students to schedule their exam when most convenient. Examity offers 24/7 live proctoring.
Integrity is preserved. Examity deters academic dishonesty by monitoring students’ computer screens, physical environment, and behaviors while testing. Examity ensures students’ identities are validated prior to each exam.
Instructors receive feedback. Within 48 hours of a proctored exam, the course instructor will receive a report noting any “flags.” The instructor will use the data provided by Examity to determine if a student is in violation.
Student data is protected. Examity complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Proctors are located in secure sites, and videos are encrypted and hosted on secure servers.
