In his State of the University address, Indiana University President Michael McRobbie hailed IU Online programs as key to increasing Indiana’s percentage of college graduates. McRobbie called online education a “lifeline to higher education and the hope of graduating” for the roughly 22% of Hoosiers who have some college education. IU Online represents IU’s commitment to making higher education accessible to today’s diverse populations of learners who want to complete degrees, earn new ones, or shorten time to graduation.
Fall 2017’s record 5,066 students who are enrolled in the 116 online degrees and more than 2,000 online courses represent a 4% increase over 2016. These numbers attest to the fact that IU Online meets the expectations of today’s “born-digital” students, who expect the latest in high-quality technology tools and experiences.
Behind these numbers is the Indiana University brand. IU Online is authentically IU. Degree programs, courses, and materials are developed and taught by the same IU faculty who build IU’s worldwide reputation. Online classes are an extension of the best classroom instruction, with lively interaction, small class size, and personal attention.
IU Online opens the doors to the best of Indiana University. It puts IU’s traditions of excellence, and its renown faculty, teaching, research, and digital resources within reach of learners far beyond the boundaries of the state.
